Since the 27th of March 2011 the Museum of natural sciences moved from a building in Parc de la Ciutadella to a modern complex of 9000m2 in Fòrum, near the sea. It also suddenly got a new name: Museu Blau, which means Blue Museum. The collection of the museum contains zoological, geological and botanical material that was being collected during the 132 years of existence of the Museum.

In the new museum a permanent exhibition, “Planeta vida” can be admired. On a surface of 3000m2 you will become acquainted with the history of life and her evolution in relation with our planet earth. It shows how earth looks like at the moment and to show this they make use of thousands of fossils, animals, plants, stones, minerals, microbes and algae’s.

Next to this permanent exhibition Museu Blau also has halls for temporary exhibitions and educational activities. You will also find a library, some auditoriums, a conference hall, workshops, a restaurant and a museum shop there.

The intention of the museum is not only to spread knowledge about science but also “to actively work at making the greater public aware of environmental problems and the respect for nature”.
