The Spanish village - Poble Espanyol

Poble Espanyol is a small Spanish village where you can find different samples of Spanish architecture. It was build for International Exhibition which was held in Barcelona in 1929 on Montjuic mountain. There are 116 buildings which were build by two architects. Some of the buildings are exact replicas of existing buildings and others just represent the architectural style of different areas in Spain. One of the most famous replicas is the main entrance gate “Puerta San Vicente”, which original version is located in the Avila city.

The village was build only for the exhibition and after that it was supposed to be destroyed, but it became one of the most popular sights in Barcelona and it was preserved. Today the village is still important sight in Barcelona, but it is not so visible as the main sights like “Sagrada Familia” and “Park Guell”. In 1988 it was renovated and there were added few buildings. There are also lots of art displays and many workshops where artisans create traditional art like glass, paintings, musical instruments, ceramics and other handmade objects. Poble Espanyol has also bars, coffee shops and restaurants where you can relax on sunny day.

It is a great retreat for those who wish to enjoy the beautiful architecture at a reasonable price & away from the hustle bustle of the main cities.
