The Casa Terrades, a building designed by the modernistic architect Josep Puig i Cadalfach, is standing on the Avinguda Diagonal 416. This architect also designed the Casa Amatler and the textile factory that nowadays houses CaixaForum in Barcelona.

The Casa Terrades was built in 1905 for the sisters Terrades that wanted to transform three existing buildings into one complex. Puig i Cadalfach designed a building with medieval characteristics but at the same time with elements that make you think of European gothic. One of the most remarkable aspects of the house are the six towers with their conical roofs that stretch out to a needle. This is the reason why the house is popularly called ‘Casa de les Punxes’, what in Catalan means: House with the Points.

For the construction of the façade there was being used red brick stones. On that façade you can see different decorative panels. On one of these panels Sant Jordi is being displayed, Sint Joris, the patron saint of Catalonia. It says: ‘Sant Patró de Catalunya, torneu-nos la llibertat’ or ‘Holy patron of Catalonia, give us back the freedom’.

In 1975 this building was proclaimed National Historic Monument and in 1980 it was renovated completely. Looking at the fact the house is private property, it can’t be visited inside.
