A favorite spot for many to drink a glass is the summer terrace of the Frederic Marès Museum. It is situated on a unique location in the old centre of Barcelona, in Barri Gòtic, right next to the Cathedral, on Plaça de Sant lu 5-6. The terrace is opened every day from April until September, from 10.00 till 22.00.

The museum

The museum was reopened last May after it was closed down for two years due to thorough renovations. It accommodates collections that her founder, the sculptor Frederic Marès (1993-1991), made. In the year 1946 he granted his collection to the city of Barcelona. Two years later this museum was being inducted in a complex that formerly belonged to the old Royal Palace of the Landgraves of Barcelona.

Frederic Marès collected an extensive collection of Hispanic sculptures during his life, of which polychrome religious artworks were the greatest part. In the museum you will also find part of his own sculpture works that are exhibited in the library.

In the museum’s cabinet thousands of object are displayed that illustrate how life looked like before, especially in the 18th century. Among them pipes, clockworks and timepieces, jewels, photos, toys and pharmacy material.

Until 2012 you can also watch a temporary exposition of 8 artists from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona. In this exposition they show their personal vision on the most prominent pieces of art of the museum during the period the museum was being renovated.

The museum is opened from Thuesday till Saturday  from 10.00 until 19.00 and on Sundays and holidays from 11.00 until 20.00. For more information entrance prices visit the website of the Frederic Marès Museum.
