Maremàgnum: more than a shopping mall

MaremàgnumOn the Moll d’Espanya or the Spanish pier in the old harbour of Barcelona, the shopping mall Maremàgnum is situated. Here you’ll find a lot of shops, bars and restaurants and a cinema. Nearby you’ll also find the Aquàrium of Barcelona and the Imax movie theatre. During your holiday in Barcelona, visiting this shopping and entertainment paradise a true recommendation.

The most pleasant route to Maremàgnum is to walk over the pedestrian bridge that’s also called the Rambla de Mar, this because it is a sort of extension of the Rambla. The bendy architecture of this bridge is quite special and that’s why this place is often chosen for capturing movies or commercials. The bridge is being opened regularly, among others every hour to let the boats sail out of the harbour. This is a real spectacle every time cause of the special mechanisms that are being used. The bridge doesn’t open in height but shoves sideways in different parts.

The shopping mall of Maremàgnum consists out of more than 30 shops. These are opened all days of the year, including sun- and holidays, from 10.00 till 22.00.  Moreover you can go to one of the many bars and restaurants of which some have a pleasant terrace with sea view. The dining options are opened daily until 01.00 am. Finally you’ll also find  the Cinesa cinema complex there. This chain, that exploits cinemas in many Spanish cities, has 8 theatres in Maremàgnum and shows 3D movies as well. For the program visit the website of Cinesa.

Near the mall the Imax theatre is situated. In this immense theatre three movies are being shown. In first place you can see movies projected on a flat screen with a height of 7 floors. Next to this there are also movies played on a spherical screen with a diameter of 30 meters, the Omnimax. Finally you can watch movies in 3D.

Between the shopping mall and the Imax theatre you’ll find Aquàrium de Barcelona. It is one of the biggest aquariums of Europe and shows more than 450 different fish and plants. Among them you’ll find the Oceanarium that is quite unique in Europe. It has a transparent tunnel of more than 80 meters long that lets the visitors experience a walk through the deep waters of the Mediterranean. Practical information about this you can find on the website of the Aquàrium de Barcelona.
