Near the harbor you can find one of the most fun attractions for young and old: the aquarium. Thousands of big and small fishes (including sharks) are swimming around in water basins. There are three different water tanks. In the first, “Ocenarium”, you can see ocean life, it contains 4 million liters of water. The two other tanks are dedicated to tropical ocean life and the Mediterranean sea. The aquarium has specially build tunnels where it feels like you are being part of the underwater life.

Experienced divers can even swim with sharks in the aquarium. But before you can do this, you first have to follow a course teaching about sharks and their behavior. After this you can swim with 15 sharks under the supervision of an aquarium employee.

The l'Aquarium de Barcelona wants to spread knowledge about sea life. There are several workshops for groups but also for children in which they explain about the ocean system in a more easy way. There are interactive expositions and theatre performances, of course with the theme: ocean life.

Besides this there are also special tours through the maintenance areas of the aquarium where you get answers to all your questions about the water and the caring of the fish.
