The Serra de Collserola is a mountain that belongs to the Catalan mountain range Serralada Litoral, which forms the separation between the city of Barcelona and the Vallès Occidental valley. The highest point of this mountain is 512 meters and is called Tibidabo. On the mountain the 455 meter high Vilana hill is situated on which the Torre de Collserola is standing, a telecommunication mast that was build as result of the Olympic Games of 1992.

The Torre de Collserola is a design by the British architect Norman Foster, that also designed the dome of the Reichstag building in Berlin and the World Port Center in Rotterdam. This tower is 288 meters high and is principally used as a radio/television mast.

The central pillar shank of the mast has a diameter of 4.5 meters. The cross bars that support the structure don’t only give it its conventional and slim look but also increase the stability of the mast. Out of three points on the lowest floor supporting cables are going to the towers centre and from three point on the highest floor supporting cables are attached to the antenna on top of the mast.

The tower consists out of 13 floors and the 10th, that is on a height of 135 meters, is open for visitors. On days with good visibility you can look 70 km far. Visiting this mast is sure worth doing.
