'Golondrinas': Boat trips in Barcelona

Las GolondrinasAn excellent idea for a sultry summer day is to make a trip on sea. It’s possible in Barcelona thanks to the ‘golondrinas’. These trips with passenger boats were set up for the 1888 World Fair, and are one of Barcelona’s oldest attractions. From Port Vell, near the statue of Columbus, you can make a trip through the harbour or alongside the coast to the complex of Fòrum.

A trip through the harbour in a typical passenger boat takes about 35 minutes and costs €6,50 for adults and €2,60 for children until the age of 10. The boat takes you among others alongside the World Trade Centre, the bridge Porta d’Europa, the International Maritime Station, the cades of the Llevant and Ponent, the fishers harbour and the clock tower. If the weather conditions are right you can also make an extended trip through the harbour. This costs €11,50 for adults and €3,00 for children. Next to the previously called places, this trip also passes by the industrial harbour and the Zona Franca.

If you want to see the coast of Barcelona from another perspective you can choose for the boat trip of 1,5 hour to Fòrum. The catamaran sails among others alongside the World Trade Centre, the bridge Porta d’Europa, the International Maritime Station, the different beaches, the Olympic harbour and the harbour of Fòrum-Sant Adrià de Besòs. For this trip adults pay €13,50 and children €5,00. Pensioners and students enjoy a special tariff of €11,-.

A little footnote, these trips aren’t provided with any comments about the different buildings the boat will pass. On these boat trips you will mainly get rest and cooling. Of course you can look up some information about the things you sail by with a travel guide yourself. On the website of the ‘golondrinas’ of Barcelona you will find all detailed information about the hours of departing and the different trips.
