Each year from 23 to 26 September, la fiesta de la Mèrce takes place in Barcelona. This is one of the biggest festivals in Barcelona which is held in honour of the city's patroness "La Mèrce". It is also named  "Fiesta Mayor" (main festival) as it is the largest and colourful festival of Barcelona. Concerts, dancing performances, human towers (castellers), parades and spectacular costumes are organised during these days.

La Cursa de la Mercè is a 10 k fun run through the city of Barcelona and its most emblematic and beautiful sights and streets. This great sports event has now been taking place for more than 30 years and still enjoys great popularity so that each year more than 10 000 people take part. The idea of the run is motivating all kinds of people to join –no matter of their physical condition– in order to promote the idea of exercising for an overall better well-being.

Joaquín Sabina one of the most famous singers of the Spanish-speaking world will come to Barcelona this September to host a concert. Having fully recovered from the stroke he had suffered from in 2005 he is now back on the stage and performing better than ever. The concert will be an exciting event that is not to be missed.

Alejandro Sanz is a famous Spanish singer-songwriter who became in 2004 the Grammy-award for his album No es lo mismo . With his Latin pop and soulful ballads he entertains crowds of thousands and soon, he will give a concert in the huge Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona where he will performs tracks from his latest album, Paraíso Express.

Every year on September 11th the Catalonians celebrate their national day –the celebration commemorates the fall of the city into the hands of the Bourbon monarchy in 1714 during the Spanish Succession.

During this special commemoration the city celebrates with concerts, demonstrations, parades, and proud Catalonians hang the Catalonian flag from their balconies. Furthermore, flowers are laid down in front of the monuments of Rafael Casanova and General Moragues who fought against the Bourbon army.
