The first swim of the year is a fun if chilly way of celebrating the New Year in Barcelona. This increasingly popular first swim of the year is called  'Primer Bany de l'Any!' and celebrates its 15th edition on 1st January 2011. It takes place in Barcelona at the Sant Sebastià beach in front of the Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta.

If you are in Barcelona around christmas and want to take part of a special activity of the city, the Caminada de nadal (christmas walk) is the right choice. It is organised each year and is a 7 km route starting from Parc de Ciutadella. The finish line will be at the
starting point, Parc de Ciutadella.

La feria de Reyes de la Gran Via (called St Thomas and Kings) is one of the biggest Christmas-New Year markets for gifts and toys in Barcelona. It has around 300 markets stalls with mostly toys and other traditional "Reyes" gifts like "carbon de azucar" (alias candy coal!).

The Tibidabo amusement park and Barcelona Zoo are open over the Christmas holidays and are preparing several special activities for children.
For example there is "Cançó de la Pau", in which children sing for peace. Any adult accompanied by a child visiting the park that day will be able to get in for free.

The Barcelona is a non-stop, round-the-world yacht race for crews of two. Following the Clipper route, it starts and finishes in Barcelona.
The inaugural race, contested in 2007-2008 by nine boats, was won by PAPREC-VIRBAC 2 in a time of 92 days. The second edition of the race will start on 31 December 2010.
Five teams have registered already, in teams of two.
The two main sponsors are the Barcelona-brewery and soft drink company Estrella Damm.

This December you can see the British heavymetal group in concert in Barcelona. They were formed in 1975 and has currently three members; Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee. During the years they have released many albums and become one of the most well known groups in the heavymetal genre.
