If you love classical music then, the Liceu or Gran Teatre del Liceu, is definately something for you.

The liceu was established in 1837 in the monestry of Montsió by Manuel Gibert i Sans. It began as a two-sided building with on the one site a musical formed part and on the other a side for opera perfomances. In 1844 the lyceum needed to find a new location. They got permission to buy the the former monestry from the Trinitairs situated on the Ramblas. They designed and rebuilded a new building in 1845 and finished it in 1847.

In a few decades the Liceu becomes the most important theatre the city has. After some incidents like a bombing and fires the Liceu was again rebuilded and it opened his doors again in 1999. During the rebuild the theatre was equiped with some of the newest techniques that make it one of the modernst operas of the world.
