One of the most eye-catching and modern buildings in Barcelona is without any doubt the Torre Agbar. This skyscraper is situated in between the Avinguda Diagonal and the Carrer Badajoz, near Plaça de les Glòries.

The building has an height of 145 meters, counts 34 floors and 4 underground levels. The total surface covers 50.693 square meters of which 30.000m² appointed for offices, 3.210m² for technical installations, 8.132m² for several services and 9.132m² of parking space. The tower was officially inaugurated on September 16th 2005 by the king of Spain and cost in total about 130 million Euros. The owner of the building is the group Aguas de Barcelona, that also have their head-office there and the greater part of the floors. The rest of the floors is being rented.

The tower was designed by architect Jean Nouvel in cooperation with the company b720 Arquitectors. The design was said to be influenced by some representative Catalan symbols: the towers of the Segrada Familia and the mountains of Montserrat. Above all the designer saw the building as a sort of geyser, bubbled up from the sea. On his turn that had to do with the fact that a company should settle there that deals with water.

A remarkable feature of the Torre Agbar is its nightly lighting. That is the tower possesses over 4.500 light points that can independently be activated with use of the LED technology. The sophisticated lighting system can project over 16 million colors, and that causes a majestic effect.
